Kaka (2009) AC Milan – Real Madrid: £56m
Once again Real Madrid smashed the world record transfer fee, and once again it was president Floretino Perez who paid it; this time in his second spell at the club, embarking on his Galactico model: mark II.
Kaka, who was World Player of the Year in 2007, had been linked with Real for a number of years but this time AC Milan couldn’t refuse the huge transfer fee.
Unfortunately for Kaka, his record fee was soon overshadowed (much like his form for Madrid) by Cristiano Ronaldo’s monster transfer to the same club just a few days later.
